when you come across someone (a woman, no less) who uses the lovely phrase "feminism is dead. besides, it never did anything good for women except get us the vote," how would you calmly and intelligently counter her assertions (after you're done being totally shocked and consumed with rage & sadness)?

I'm getting sick of dealing with anti-feminists who demand "concrete examples" of patriarchy, male privilege, sexism, etc., only to dismiss them with one of the following excuses:

• It's true, but the statistics are exaggerated.
• It happened in the past, but it doesn't any more.
• It happened in other countries; I'm only concerned with this one.

My boyfriend got into an argument with a friend of ours, and at the end of it, complimented her sincerely on being a feminist.
